LMC Chairman Marsalis to be inducted

at Hilton Riverside 7th Annual

Walk of Fame Ceremony

(New Orleans, LA.) Sept. 17, 1997 -- Ellis Marsalis Jr., Chairman of the Louisiana Music Commission (LMC), is one of five New Orleanians to be inducted at the seventh annual Walk of Fame ceremony on Friday, September 19th at the New Orleans Hilton Riverside. This year's other inductees include Ella Brennan, Blaine Kern, Sr., Sheriff Harry Lee and Mary Pumilia.

The Hilton Riverside Walk of Fame honors New Orleanians who have made contributions to, and a difference in, the way of life in their city. Mr. Marsalis is being awarded for his major contributions to the music legacy of New Orleans. "Ellis Marsalis is not only the father of great musicians, his sons, but he is also the father of music...as we enter into the new millennium," said Paul Buckley, General Manager of the New Orleans Riverside Hilton.

"Many great people are recognized posthumously for their achievements and success; however, Ellis Marsalis and his contributions and achievements in the music industry demand exception to that rule," said Bernie Cyrus, Executive Director of the Louisiana Music Commission, who refers to Marsalis as his mentor. "Working with him has been the ultimate experience and reward."

A buffet breakfast for inductees and their guests in Cafe Bromeliad will follow the 10:00 am ceremony.
