Released 2 new CDs: Sleeping Village's the alien prophet and Ferral Manuel's self titled CD. Ferral's latest CD is touted as "Chris Isaak meets Randy Travis" and features 10 new original songs.
Announces T-Mamou's newest CD titled Cajun & Creole Jam featuring some "Get Down" funky Cajun music. According to Flat Town, this new CD is a sensuous dance music gumbo with plenty of Cajun and creole seasoning!

Announced the release of "Back To The Big Easy", a loosely based companion piece to the successful The Big Easy soundtrack. Compiled and produced by Johnny Palazzotto, the CD is a Cajun and zydeco mix of blues, R&B, country, rock and French songs. This is a compilation CD collection of many of the great New Orleans Cajun and zydeco artists of the last several decades such as, the late Clifton Chenier, Irma Thomas "the Soul Queen of New Orleans", Grammy-winner Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Bobby Charles, and Luther Kent (to name a few). Club Louisianne released John Fred's newest CD titled "I Miss Y'All" (The Unreleased Masters). John's 1958 recording of "Shirley" made the Billboard top 40 charts when he was 16, in 1968 "Judy in Disguise" reached #1 worldwide. This latest CD is a link in John's Rock n' Roll legacy. Kevin Naquin and the Ossun Playboys new CD titled "Pour la premiere fois" is a mixture of old and new tunes. "True to their Cajun background, the Ossun Playboys perform traditional tunes, but they also like to experiment a little in pushing the limits of Cajun music." Louisiana Legend Rod Bernard released is first new recording in over 25 years. His newest CD is titled "A Louisiana Tradition." Best known for his 1959 top 20 hit "This Should Go On Forever." The CD features nine original songs with several well known cover songs and is being distributed statewide by Gonzales Music Company and Floyds Record Distributing (Ville Platte). Announced the release of the latest disc by guitarist David Frazier called "David Frazier, A Touch of Blues." The CD is garnering good reviews in a variety of national publications. Distribution is by Malaco. The record contains a mix of originals and classic tunes. Radio stations in several markets are featuring Frazier's rendition of the classic instrumental song "Apache."

Join the New Orleans Film & Video Society (NOF&VS) at their open membership meeting July 14, 1999. The meeting is free and will include a demonstration by Larry Blake on sound for film. Mr. Blake's credits as sound editor & re-recording mixer include films as Out of Sight and sex, lies and videotape, King the Hill, The Pallbearer, Love Jones and his new upcoming feature Kitchen Privileges. The demonstration will cover various stages of the film process, starting with the production track, through dialog editing ADR, Foley, Sound Effects, Sound Design, and Music. A question & answer session and refreshments follow the demonstrations. The event will take place at Ultrasonic Digital, 400 Lafayette St., Suite 130 from 6pm to 8pm. Judd Bares signs contract, Section 8 and Tuba release new CDs. Country music artist Judd Bares of Sulphur, LA is the newest artist signed to Swahili Records. Judd begins work on his CD this summer. Section 8 recently completed work on their new CD titled "Lets Go To Mars". The CD combines hard driving rock with an airy sound. Tuba's CD, titled "Sandwich", is a mix of pop with some hard rocking songs. Both CDs are due out by mid July. According to Jason Hewitt, owner of Swahili Records, "we feel that we have completed two albums that are good enough to have multiple singles on the radio." Baton Rouge-based Binky Records has become the newest edition to the family of Louisiana Red Hot Records label. Hot off the presses are three new releases scheduled for June. They include Mike West's "16 Easy Songs for Drill and Banjo", Bob Childers' "Hat Trick", and Greg Jacobs' "Look at Love". We noted the release of "Whiskey & a Beer to Go" previously, but now Nelson is online, so check out this great bluesy record by another up-and-coming young pianist in New Orleans.
 
Just released a new CD by the Bayou Dixieland Band called "Dixieland Along the Bayou" which features a lineup of seasoned players (two of the members are over 80 years old) performing classic traditional jazz numbers. The record is an impressive collection featuring great performances by all the players. The clarinet work by Donald Besson, one of the old timers, is truly sweet as is the guitar playing of Septime Rodrigue (a great Louisiana name!). Hunter Logan and the Talegators completed work on their first CD this spring. The CD, titled "Boogie In The Swamp" features ten original tunes and was released May 30 by Swamp Pop Publishing. Distribution is being handled by All American Video in Jennings with plans being finalized between Swamp Pop Publishing and Wal Mart for distribution of the CD throughout all Wal Mart stores in Louisiana. Fourth of July weekend brings forth a three day event labeled Sweatfest '99! The event began as a one day record release party but grew into a musical event heralding the joint effort of Turducken Recordings & Root Beer Extract Records in completing a compilation CD of garage, surf and punk bands. The compilation, titled "N.O.-FI", features the Royal Pendletons, Darkest Hours, Leopolds, The Persuaders, Macgillicuddys, Ramparts, and Famous Monsters all recorded live. Bands from Austin to Atlanta & Detroit to Virginia responded to the event saying they were willing to drive in to partake in the celebration and release of "N.O.-FI". Michael Paz of Pyramid Audio and Rick Naiser of Festival Recording Studio are holding a free clinic today showcasing the Steinberg Cubase Audio system for Mac and Windows computers. The clinic gets underway at 7PM at Festival Recording Studio located at 3413 Florida Ave., Kenner (one block off Williams Blvd. 1/2 Blk south of W. Esplanade). There is no charge or obligation for attending. The Steinberg Cubase Audio system is an advanced recording software system that features editing capabilities and the ability to clean up old recordings of pops, crackles and other deterioration that occurs over time. Friday May 28
announces a new release by Louisiana music legend Rod Bernard titled "Louisiana Tradition". This CD is Rod's first release since the 1970's and features Louisiana roots music combining Swamp-pop, Cajun-Zydeco, and classic Rock-N-Roll. Featured artists include: Carlo Ditta who was joined by Tommy Malone, Johnny Ray Allen & Kenneth Blevins, Dr. John in a duet with Art Neville ; Wardell Quezergue's Slammin' Big Band with Luther Kent ; Maria Muldaur in a duet with the late Blu Lu Barker; The Funky Meters ; Tiny Town joined by the Radiators' Dave Malone; the Young Guardians of The Flame; Smilin' Myron; George Porter Jr.; Coco Robicheaux and more. Willie Tee's "I Believe in My Soul" which features a slew of great SW Louisiana sax players including the legendary 91+ year old Santy Runyon (see previous story), is receiving rave reviews. Willie, whose last name is Trahan, is a longtime member of the Lafayette Swamp Pop scene and a respected saxophonist (he can play accordion, too, but not on this record). Alternative rockers Rumblefish are getting major label inquiries for their CD "6 in the Mix." Currently in production for a Spring '99 release are: country singer/songwriter Larry Habetz; former Basin Brother Danny Collet is recording an all-French record; country singer/songwriter Ferral Manuel; alternative country sister act 2 Sweet; hard rock band Power Tribe; melodic rock act Sleeping Village; and Damon Troy & Louisiana Beat. Damon is a 17 year old accordion player with a great voice.
